Chaoyi Ding is an Associate with Kerr, Russell and Weber, PLC, focusing on general business and corporate law as well as international business transactions. As a Chinese National, Ms. Ding is fluent in Mandarin and is licensed to practice law in both China and Michigan. Her qualifications as both a US and Chinese lawyer make Ms. Ding unique among US lawyers who practice in the area of US-Chinese business.

 

Ms. Ding is a member of the firm's international practice group, where she provides invaluable support to the firm's many US-Chinese clients. As a native to China, she is very knowledgeable about Chinese law, culture and government regulation.

 

Ms. Ding advises US clients entering China on various corporate structures including, wholly foreign owned enterprises, foreign-invested commercial enterprises, equity joint ventures, contractual joint ventures and representative offices. She also advises US companies on corporate, tax, labor, import/export, foreign currency and intellectual property issues in China.

 

Ms. Ding is also experienced in advising Chinese companies on the many legal issues Chinese companies face themselves when entering the US market, such as selecting the appropriate form of entity, tax, employment law, retaining US sales representatives, and establishing offices and facilities in the US.

 

Prior to joining Kerr, Russell and Weber, Ms. Ding interned at the Michigan Governor's Office of Legal Counsel. She was also an intern with the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the United States District Court-Southern District of Texas and the Peoria County Illinois Circuit Court.

 

Ms. Ding graduated, magna cum laude, from Michigan State University College of Law where she was given the Jurisprudence Achievement Award for International Business Transactions. She received her LL.B. law degree in China from the Wuhan University School of Law and also served as a visiting scholar with the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law in Singapore. Ms. Ding is a member of the State Bar of Michigan.
